Creating Easy Video Content

Why video matters

2026 is going to be a huuuuuuge year for video content on social media. Anyone and everyone is creating video content and it doesn't even have to be that good! In fact, the more messy it is, the more authentic it comes across. These days when every other video we watch on socials makes us question whether AI was involved, video content that is quick, sharp and gets to the point is what's going to help us market our products and services and bring in those clients and customers! But it doesn't have to be that hard!
Easy video content
Late last year, I decided to change my list of services to include helping people get comfortable in front of the camera, but if you're already feeling confident, creating video content has never been so easy. You can literally film yourself using your mobile phone and maybe a few books to prop it up, or just hold your phone up to your face. You don't need to spend lots of money until you know for sure your content is working, then maybe splash out on a tripod, a mic and maybe a nice laptop that can handle great video editing. You don't even have to edit your video if you don't want to. Just get your video out there, be specific about what your talking about, don't ramble, and share it as soon as you can, especially if it's time sensitive.
The apps I'm using
Now if you are ready for the next step, a bit of editing, here are some of the apps I've tried. Almost all of them have free usage and I only pay for the Canva one, but if you don't mind having a watermark, it's free!
I just used the in-app to create a short video simply for the purposes of writing this blog and it was super easy. It took less than five minutes to film and edit. I'm super impressed with the use of the green screen feature. It was easy to use and I don't think I've had enough time exploring this so I'll be trying this out a bit more. Instagram have been working hard to compete with Tiktok and it's ease of use and since so many small business owners use Instagram, why go elsewhere when you've already established an audience on
Descript
I've used this for my clients, particularly for the content where there's a lot said and you need to cut it down into a shorter video. The beauty of Descript is that you get auto captions, where when you edit the script, it automatically edits and cuts the video. It also detects the "ums" and "ahhs" that fill your script and just removes them with one click. It also easily lets you add images and other cuts you want to add to your video. The only problem is, my laptop isn't fast enough to cope with the editing the way my phone does. I filmed this video a while ago and actually it's not too bad, I really like it.
Canva

While I'm a big lover of Canva, and I have a subscription that gives me loads of features, again, my laptop sometimes can't handle it. But I did make this video using Canva and was able to add in some of my artwork to the video that I created on Canva which I love. I did try using Canva on my phone too but it really couldn't handle it at all. It's too clunky! There are lots of templates to choose from but there are other apps that are way easier to use than this. I'm still keeping Canva for graphic design! It's the best!
Capcut

This is my favourite app for using templates and video montages. The ready-made templates are user created, and you literally slip in your own content and it's already matched up to cool effects and music. I've made so many videos using this feature. I use it a lot for my Tiktok account where I share content about my political activism. I'm seriously thinking about paying for the premium subscription as it's just so easy to use and works really well sharing directly to Tiktok without a watermark.
What to avoid
Definitely don't bother paying for any premium subscriptions until you've played around with the app a bit more. You can do 7 day trials or other offers, but MAKE SURE you put a note in your diary to cancel. Don't spend too much time thinking about your content, especially if you want to keep it easy. Don't be afraid to try lots of things; you can always delete a video from your accounts if you're not happy with it.
And finally...
You're beautiful, you don't need all the filters, and no one really cares if you have make-up on or not, or whether your flyaway hairs are in your face. Just try it out, be fearless. Add captions because most people watch video content with the sound off. Most importantly, be consistent! Consistency always beats perfection!
